Narvik Hitlers First Defeat 2023 Review

In April 1940, Narvik, a town in northern Norway known for its iron ore, becomes a focal point of global attention. Despite fierce winter warfare, Hitler experiences his first defeat in Narvik. The movie “Narvik: Hitler’s First Defeat,” starring Stig Henrik Hoff and Henrik Mestad, is available to stream on Netflix with a subscription. The film is a blend of drama and historical events, and has received a positive rating of 7.0 on IMDb from 685 votes.

Narvik Hitlers First Defeat Revels

During World War II, Norway, a country that had claimed neutrality, became a target for both the Germans and British due to the minerals and raw goods that were exported from a small town in the north of the country. This resulted in the Norwegians being forced to participate in a battle that lasted for two months. Interestingly, this was the first time that Hitler’s army was defeated in the war.

As for the film itself, it is technically well-made. Norway has been able to reinvent itself in the film industry, producing spectacular productions such as Trol. The film is based on the tried and tested formulas of war movies and while it may not be entirely original, it is built on solid cinematic ideas that are sure to appeal to viewers who enjoy this genre.

However, it should be noted that the film lacks the strong artistic intent seen in movies such as All Quiet on the Western Front. The characters are not particularly deep and the story does not have much of a philosophy behind it. Instead, it focuses on telling a real-life story and highlighting heroic elements that will appeal to a less critical audience.

The film is not as intense or thought-provoking as Paths of Glory or Apocalypse Now, and it is more of a patriotic film than a character-driven introspection. That being said, the battle scenes and those filmed at the bridge are well-executed. The acting is good, but the characters are more of a collective representation and can be considered clichés.

Social Reaction & Review Of Narvik Hitlers First Defeat

Just watched Narvik on Netflix. Nice little Norwegian WW2 film. More of a tense & emotional family drama than an epic war film. It feels small scale, with a tightly written plot & a small but excellent cast. A tale full of moral dilemmas based on heroic true events. I liked it.

Na Netflixu v pondělí přistál film Narvik. Zpracování dobré, pěkné detaily, zejména mě potěšili příslušníci francouzské Cizinecké legie. Ale. Dvě dějové linky to trochu nabourávají a i když jsou Norové tvrdí seveřani, v tehdejších dubnových mrazech tam tak nalehko nechodili.

Does Narvik depict a true historical event?

The city of Narvik in Norway was the site of Hitler’s initial defeat during World War II. Despite the many films that have been made about battles from the war, Narvik is a new Norwegian drama film that takes place in the spring of 1940 and depicts Hitler’s army as it advanced through Europe.

FAQ

In which country is the town and ice-free seaport of Narvik located?

Narvik, located in northern Norway near the head of Ofotfjorden, is a town and ice-free seaport that serves as a significant transshipment point for iron ore from the abundant Kiruna-Gällivare mines in northern Sweden. This is due to the fact that the ports in Sweden on the Gulf of Bothnia become frozen during the winter months.

Is Narvik a good movie?

Visually stunning wartime drama that effectively explores moral dilemmas. While it may not be exceptional, it is a solid and engaging film.
