Batman and Robin, Superman and Supergirl Movies in the Works as DC Studios Reshapes
DC Studios, formerly known as DC Films, has unveiled a new slate of superhero movies under the co-leadership of writer/director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran, who became co-CEOs of the studio in October 2022. The new films will feature new portrayals of Batman, Robin, Superman, and Supergirl, while Robert Pattinson will continue as Batman in a separate franchise.
The first film, Superman: Legacy, written by Gunn and starring a new actor, will be released on July 11, 2025. Other planned films include The Authority, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Swamp Thing. The DCU will also have crossover television shows, including Creature Commandos, a Suicide Squad spin-off for Viola Davis’s Waller, a Green Lantern show called Lanterns, a Wonder Woman prequel Paradise Lost, and a comedy Booster Gold. Safran stated that the goal is to incorporate lesser-known characters into the “diamond characters” of tomorrow, and that past characters and actors may still be part of the DCU, but mostly with new casting.
